Image Description:The head salesman at Airbus said chief rival Boeing (NYSE:BA) would be making a huge mistake if it opted for an all new successor to its 737 aircraft in response to a revamped Airbus A320 aircraft, aviation industry Web site Flightglobal reported Monday.
John Leahy, Airbus chief operating officer, said the pany is evaluating an A320 with a new engine as "an option to the existing airplane" from 2015.
Leahy remarked that if Boeing responded by introducing a new aircraft in 2017 or 2018 it would offer only slightly modified technology, and lack the 20 to 30 year lifespan needed for mercial success.
